Percabeth finally happened, and the ending was pretty satisfactory. Not to mention, some great enemies were faced here.Īs a last book, it is vastly superior to BoO.

Regardless, I think it admirably managed to do the difficult job of getting everyone back into a new series that didn’t have Percy in the first book. This book always was going to have a difficult time, and the characters were rather hit and miss at this point (looking at you, Jason).
This one narrowly trumps SoM, however, because let’s face it, we all have a special connection to the first book. The idea was novel, and the characters’ even back then were well-written, but the adventure’s hadn’t really entered the level that some of Riordan’s later books have. This book was a great opening to a world that still captivates many, but again, it suffers from a lack of emotional stakes. It was definitely a thrilling book, but at this point the emotional stakes’ were still lacking, and I feel like Riordan was still settling into his own style. Rather, I think of it as the “least best”. So to say Sea of Monsters was “bad” would be grossly inaccurate. A poor show…įrom here on out, all the books are good, which is pretty impressive, and only highlights how disappointing BoO was. We perhaps got six pages of our heroes fighting with Gaea. The choice of POV’s did not suit well with me, and the ultimate climax to the books was remarkably disappointing. This is probably the only book I was genuinely disappointed in. Yes, Riordan’s most recent book did not fare as well as the others. But without further ado, from worst to best, the ranking of Rick Riordan’s ten Greek Mythology based books: I love both series, and so this was a pretty difficult list to make. There will be spoilers, so if you haven’t read the books, please don’t read this! It’s been hectic, but here it is, the promised ranking of Rick Riordan’s “Percy Jackson”.īefore I start, I should probably clarify a few things: despite the title, I will be including all the “Heroes of Olympus” series in the ranking.
